From April–September 2015, Open for better care revisited reducing harm from falls as a campaign focus area. It was an opportunity to once again raise the profile of the harm people can suffer if they fall and hurt themselves – especially older people receiving care, whether in hospital, residential care, or in their own home. The campaign supports the work of the Health Quality & Safety Commission’s Reducing Harm from Falls programme.
The topic theme was 'Stand up to Falls', focusing on an integrated approach to falls in older people across health and social services. It applies in all care settings – it is as relevant at a central agency level as it is across hospital, aged residential care and primary/community care settings. Having older people at the heart of everything we do is essential.
